Splash and Freeze - Photography

Finally i can make some a little tips about Speed Photography..

Splash and Freeze

  Shutter Speed 1/50,f/4, ISO 100
This Photo is FPE on Fotografer.net on June 23rd 2009

here is my current equipment for making this splash and freeze photo ..

1. trigger & receiver for flash..

Since i don't find  suitable trigger for nissin di611, so I use YN-460 ( this flash is made in china and it's cheap but really good ).

2. a remote wired for shutter ..

3. an acrylic, it's for background.

4. a glass for reflecting my object ...

5. a cup of glass and lemonade.

Can it freeze water when the shutter speed is 1/50 ? Yup, why not,, everything it depends on how we control the flash /speedlite ..
so my answer is "a light from flash" for freezing the water, even it's on ISO 100.

note : don't use high power of flash if you want to freeze the object, the best is low power flash will freeze the object 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 and so on..
you can make it comparison from power flash that you use :)

here is the "HOW TO"

1. you need to set the background first, on the photo that i captured, it's an acrylic and I put flash on back of the acrylic..
2. before you do a focus, you need to see which part is good for sharp focus. on that photo I use middle of the cup,
since the bright light from flash will show in the center too..
3. for focusing, you can use auto focus and put something in there, after you got the point / focus then you can change it to manual focus.
4. try several time until you're really satisfy with the result, from what i captured, i tried it about 5 times, and finally i can use 1/50 for freezing it and I'm really satisfy with it too
5. you can ask somebody to throw the lemonade to the glass that already filled with water or you can do it with yourself by using wired remote shutter.

yup.. that's it.. :)

I really hope this "how to" is really useful :)
